An RICS Homebuyer Report is designed by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to be a thorough and comprehensive pre-purchase survey for property buyers in the UK.
The report itself follows a standardized format, and ultimately addresses the property externally to internally, going through each various element of the property in a point by point basis.
The report is also designed in a handy and easy to follow traffic light system, which ultimately adds a visual key to the various elements being described so that the reader is easily able to establish what type of condition the property is in.
Green
Green is good, it effectively means there is minimal repair required.
Orange
Orange is not so good. It means there is some form of maintenance required, which could, in the short term be costly.
Red
Red is not what you want to find as it effectively means the item being described needs serious and urgent attention.
