Home Move Checklist

Share

Moving house is often ranked as one of the most stressful life transitions you can make.

With requirements such as finding the right property, packing and transporting your belongings, changing your address, meeting your neighbours and getting settled in, the process can overwhelm even the strongest.

We thought we would put together some key points we’ve picked up over the years through our discussions with our Level 2 and Level 3 Property Survey clients who are purchasing a new property and making their big move.

Parking Charge Notices

With many of London’s boroughs adopting controlled parking and access zones, make sure you register your vehicle with the local borough to ensure that you aren’t hit with hefty parking charge notices in the early days of the move.

Local Schools

For families, checking out local schools should be a top priority. You’ll want to avoid long delays in securing local school places.

Many schools have waiting lists of up to a year for entry, so consider this early.

Growing Space

With more people working from home or having hybrid home and office arrangements, it’s essential to have a designated space for a home office.

A quiet, distraction free area will help with productivity, focus and progress.

Planned Works

If you’re planning on refurbishing the property once you complete your purchase, be sure to consider construction work procedures, such as licences for alterations or party wall surveying.

Property Surveys

Don’t overlook pre-purchase home surveys, such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Survey.

These will provide you with the much needed information before becoming the homeowner and being responsible for the repairs, maintenance and upkeep of the property.

Costs of Moving

The typical cost of moving in the UK can reach in excess of £10,000.

This includes the less considered costs such as removal fees, packing, conveyancers, mail redirection, packing materials or storage.

If you’re planning a move and think you will require a Level 2 or Level 3 Survey, Licence for Alterations assistance, or Party Wall Surveying help, get in touch with us today.
