Eco Paints

Have you recently gone through the Party Wall Surveying procedures, completed the major works and are now onto the interior decorative choices?

Why not give eco paint a thought! Environmentally friendly paint also known within the industry as ‘natural paints’ are derived from natural and in many cases recycled materials. Unlike conventional paints, naturals paints have a very low level of Volatile Organic Compounds or VOC’s.

VOC’s are essentially the toxic fumes that the paint omits once applied to its intended surface. These are not only prevalent during its application, but remain present for years to come.

VOC’s have been linked to respiratory problems, eye, nose and throat irritations, liver and lung damage and even as far as to produce carcinogenics. Furthermore, they have a negative impact on the environment leading to an increase in greenhouse gases.

Natural paints contain little to no VOC’s, this is heavily due to the fact they are derived from natural materials and usually have a very high water content, this means they not only dry faster in application, but furthermore do not emit the odour common to conventional paints.

Within the natural paint spectrum, there are two varieties. Those that are made using plant based derived materials, and those that are mineral based, both are equally effective and minimise the impact on the environment, furthermore as they contain little to no chemicals they give a high quality ‘chalky’ finish that is often sought after, being the mark of a high quality paint.

Sustainable natural paints are by no means a niche product, these days they are a very common in conventional DIY and home improvement stores, for example: B&Q and Homebase have natural paint products, this ensures that the product is not only accessible but also mainstream.

In use, natural paints are in no way a compromise, their finish is actually to a higher quality that conventional paint, it is for this reason that their popularity has grown and they have become such a popular and fashionable product.

They are a little pricier than conventional paints, but when it comes to the difference versus the benefit, here at Stokemont we think it’s a no brainer!
